SHUTDOWN RELIEF . . .
The recent government shutdown has been a struggle for many families in our area, so Knoxville native and University of Tennessee graduate, Tarek El-Messidi, wanted to help provide some relief. El-Messidi helped start a crowdfunding campaign named “Muslims Unite to Provide Shutdown Relief” through his nonprofit organization called CelebrateMercy in order to help those affected. CelebrateMercy is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that teaches about the Prophet Muhammad to Muslims and the general public via short films, online campaigns, conferences, and webinars. More than $22,000 was raised in less than days. Grants of $500 each are being distributed to the families of affected employees on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to large or single-income families.
