Using the Center

Studio Workshop | Portable Camera Workshop | Editing Workshop

There are two basic approaches you can use to create your own show - whether you are planning to create a single episode or a weekly series. One approach is to use your own equipment. The other is to become trained to use our equipment.

USING YOUR EQUIPMENT
Programs produced by residents using their own video equipment can be aired almost immediately. Simply follow these steps:

  • Obtain and review a copy of the CTV Producer Handbook. This handbook provides additional information about CTV, describes certain eligibility requirements, describes policy related to equipment use, and provides other important information related to program rights, program content, and channel use restrictions.
  • Read and sign a Producer Agreement Form. This form acknowledges your commitment to abide by all policies and procedures of Community Television of Knoxville. Please note: The link above takes you to a sample of the Producer Agreement Form. You must fill out the real form in person at the CTV offices.
  • Pay the current annual Video Access Fee ($24).
  • Submit your programming in MPEG-2 format for cablecast. Click here to find out how to make an MPEG-2 file.

USING OUR EQUIPMENT
Producers who wish to create programs using CTV television studios, portable equipment, and/or editing equipment may do so after completing appropriate production training workshops. Simply follow these steps:

  • Obtain and review a copy of the CTV Producer Handbook. This handbook provides additional information about CTV, describes certain eligibility requirements, describes policy related to equipment use, and provides other important information related to program rights, program content, and channel use restrictions.
  • Determine whether or not you will need to take any training workshop(s). The need for taking any specific workshop depends upon which type(s) of equipment you plan to use – television studios, portable equipment, or editing equipment.
  • Call 215-8848 to enroll in an appropriate training workshop (if needed) at a time that is convenient for you. Each workshop consists of two to four weekly 3-hour training sessions.
  • Pay the current annual Video Access Fee ($24) and complete your training.
  • Upon completion of your training, use CTV equipment to produce your program(s).
  • Read and sign a Producer Agreement Form. This form acknowledges your commitment to abide by all policies and procedures of Community Television of Knoxville. Please note: The link above takes you to a sample of the Producer Agreement Form. You must fill out the real form in person at the CTV offices.
  • Submit your programming in MPEG-2 format for cablecast.
