Community Television provides a fully-featured digital editing station in our facility designed to let producers edit and create their own shows to broadcast on CTV. Our editing facility features state-of-the art PC computers, Sony DVCAM decks for capturing footage, and DVD-burners for transporting and storing your shows on DVD-R. The editing package that we use is for our in-house productions is Sony Vegas 6. This is also the same program you will be learning in our digtial editing workshop.
Sony Vegas 6 is an extremely versatile non-liner editing (NLE) program that is ideal for standard definition and high-definition digital video production. Although this is professional-level video editing software, Vegas is extremely easy for beginners to learn due to its easy-to-use "drag and drop" user interface. The CTV staff will teach you how to easily edit your own show with Vegas, even if you have no previous experience with non-linear editing.
CTV offers a certification workshop to members of the community who would like to use Sony Vegas to edit their own programming for the station. The editing facility is available to anyone who lives in Knox County, pays the annual access fee ($24.00), signs a producer agreement form, and completes the digital editing workshop taught by the CTV staff, either online or in person. After certification, producers can reserve the editing suite during office hours to work on their prjoect.

The workshop covers the basics of capturing video, editing raw footage, and rendering digital files to air on out station. We also outline CTV's rules and procedures so that you know how to correctly reserve our facilities.
Digital Editing Workshops are usually taught one-on-one. The pace of the training and the number of training sessions is determined by the familiarity and comfort level of the individual taking the class.
Classes are scheduled at the beginning of each month and meet once a week for up to four weeks. If you would like to take our digital editing workshop, stop by our studios or call (865) 215-8848 to set up an appointment today. Before you call, we highly recommend taking the online course and teaching yourself from home. Everything you need to learn Vegas is included in our online tutorial, including trial downloads, sample videos, and step-by-step instructions and illustrations of each part of the editing process. If you can learn the software at your own pace at home, then you may not need to take any classes at all.
This self-guided online course is intended to familiarize you with Sony Vegas as well as CTV's policies regarding the use of our equipment. You must be certified by a CTV staff member in person in order to be able to use our editing equipment. This simply means that you must demonstrate your knowledge of editing to a CTV staff member in order to be certified to use our equipment. If you follow this online guide and practice at home, all you would have to do is demonstrate your ability to edit with Vegas when you come in for your first class in order to be certified immediately without any further training. Otherwise, you will have to take the four classes throughout the month at our studio. Any knowledge you bring to the class as a result of reviewing this guide will help you
get certified much faster, and make our jobs much easier!
