At this point, you should try using the external microphones and lights with the camera and the tripod. Remember everything you learned so far about the camera and practice, practice, practice! Try different lighting combinations to see how to best light your subject(s). Determine which method is the best to capture your audio clearly. Decide whether or not to use the tripod. These choices will all depend on your shooting environment and what type of show you would are going to produce. Remember, just try your best, make sure the video and audio look good, and don't forget to take the lens cap off!

If you feel comfortable enough with the camera, click here to take a look at the official XL-1 manual. It's a PDF document, and it's pretty lengthy and big in file size (3.14 MB), but it should answer any remaining questions you have about the camera.

Next, we will go over the rules for using our portable equipment.
