Manual Focus
The AF/M switch allows for either AUTOMATIC FOCUS or MANUAL FOCUS. If the MANUAL FOCUS mode is selected, use the SMALLER RING (nearest) to adjust the focus. When the camera is in MANUAL mode, you can still use the auto-focus feature to focus on a subject by pressing the “PUSH AF” button. It will focus on the subject, and keep that adjustment, even if you move to another subject. If the MANUAL FOCUS mode is selected, use the LARGER RING (farthest) to zoom. Rotate it CLOCKWISE to ZOOM OUT and COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to ZOOM IN.
Manual White Balance
Adjacent to the GAIN control is the WHITE BALANCE control. In most cases the camera will adjust the white balance for you, optimizing the colors in the video. However, in some mixed lighting situations, or other special lighting situations, you may need to adjust the balance manually. To do this, press the WHITE BALANCE knob. It will pop out from the camera body. To adjust the balance for regular incandescent lights, turn the knob to the left, toward the “LIGHT BULB” setting. For outdoor use (bright sun), turn the knob to the left all the way to the “SUN” setting. If you turn it to the sun setting, the outdoors will look normal, but the colors in lighted indoor areas will have shifted.
If you turn the knob clockwise to the HORIZONTAL LINE, you can MANUALLY adjust the white balance for the current lighting situation. Aim the camera at something white, like a t-shirt or a piece of paper, making sure the white image fills the screen, then press the button. In the eyepiece, on the left side, you will see the symbol that is above the button, when you press the SMALL BUTTON [white square]. It will start flashing on the screen. When it stops flashing, the balance procedure is done. The camera will hold this setting until the camera is turned off, or the white balance setting is changed. If you are in the MANUAL WHITE BALANCE mode, remember to re-white balance each time you change the lighting situation. To return to the automatic setting, turn the knob to “A”, and press the knob back into the body of the camera.
