Batteries & Powering Up
To power up the XL-1, first a BATTERY needs to be inserted. To insert the battery, locate the BATTERY RECEPTACLE on the back of the camera. Find the metal tabs on the battery and insert the battery with the tabs up and facing into the camera. Push up on the battery until it seats in the receptacle. To remove the battery, simply press the BATTERY RELEASE BUTTON at the bottom of the battery receptacle and gently pull down and out on the battery.

You can also use the AC ADAPTOR to power the camera. If you wish to use AC power, insert the power adapter into the battery slot just like a battery, with the cord hanging down, plug the other end of the cord into the TRANSFORMER, and plug the transformer into the wall. To disconnect the AC adapter, simply reverse the process.

Once you have inserted your power source, you are ready to power up the camera. For right now, we are going to use the EZ-CAM MODE, which is indicated by the little GREEN RECTANGLE on the main power wheel, which is located on the left side of the camera. Turn the wheel so that the green rectangle is next to the POINTER, and the red power LED will light up. At this point, all functions of the camera are automatic. We will discuss EZ-CAM MODE in just a moment.

NOTE: To conserve battery power, the camera will automatically go into STANDBY after about 5 minutes of NO USE. It will shut down without losing any of the manual settings. To ‘wake up’ the camera, press the STANDBY button. The camera will return to the PAUSE mode, and be ready to record. To deliberately place the camera to STANDBY mode, simply press the STANDBY button and hold it for about 1 second. The screen will display “entering power standby”. Then, it will go into STANDBY mode.
